This article presents a reflection on the relation between Brazilian economy and the world outside under a technological perspective. To do so, it makes uses the main dimensions of the balance of payments, seeking to explore its relations throughout time. It is grounded on previous works which developed the indicators of technological balance of payments, but if focus on the conceptual aspects, on the relations between the many dimensions, and on the understanding of the change process. The reflection is based on supporting documents from diverse industries and economic activities, and makes use of known elements of the Brazilian reality. That enables us to start the argumentation and to enrich the discussion with new perspectives so that we can have a debate which can make a wealth of contribution to the Brazilian development.
